Who they are.
Our client is a co-educational independent day school with a mixed-age campus in Greater London. The school runs a broad curriculum with increasing use of cloud-based learning platforms, digital assessment tools and teacher-led BYOD activities. Protecting pupils and staff while providing reliable connectivity was a core requirement.
The challenge
Where things stood.
The existing Wi‑Fi infrastructure struggled with capacity, dead zones in classrooms, and an unmanaged guest network that posed both safety and data protection risks. The school's safeguarding team needed visibility into pupil device activity and the ability to enforce acceptable use policies. Additionally, exam rooms required a tamper-proof network that prevented access to external resources during assessments.

Capacity‑Led Wireless Design
We conducted a full site survey and deployed enterprise-grade access points with a capacity-first channel plan so every classroom and communal area had consistent, high-performance coverage.
Network Segmentation
Separate SSIDs and VLANs were created for staff, pupils, guests and exams. Each segment has tailored firewall rules, bandwidth controls and logging to meet operational and safeguarding needs.
Content Filtering and Monitoring
A content filtering and monitoring solution was implemented for pupil devices with age-appropriate policies, alerting for risky behaviour and reporting for the safeguarding team.
Managed Guest Access
Guest Wi‑Fi was redesigned to require short-lived access codes, restricting lateral movement and preventing access to internal resources while keeping the user experience simple for parents and visitors.
The result
Where they are now.
The school moved from intermittent Wi‑Fi and unclear safeguarding controls to a managed, auditable environment. Classroom connectivity improved markedly, teachers were able to use cloud-based tools reliably, and the safeguarding team gained timely alerts and reports on concerning activity. Exam networks met regulatory requirements for secure assessments, and parents reported a better experience when visiting the site.
The IT team now has clear policies, automated enforcement and a vendor-backed support contract that ensures the network scales with the school's needs.
