In the wake of the Prime Minister’s announcement a few weeks ago re the roadmap to recovery in the wake of COVID-19, it looks like those of us that can and are currently working from home and set to do it for a while longer.  We understand remote working isn’t always easy, but there are tools that can help.  In this post, we look at the essential communication tools every business needs to operate remotely.

Zoom

Very few people use the phone to make work related calls anymore.  Zoom is a video conferencing tool that lets you schedule video meetings with colleagues and clients using a dedicated URL.  There are also options for recording calls, calling in by phone and muting the mics of other participants (useful if your colleagues kid bursts in on a call). There are ‘freemium’ and paid options, with the paid offering an auto-transcribe feature.

You can use Zoom on your desktop, laptop or any mobile device.  It allows your team to be seen and offers a great way of connecting with coworkers when meeting in person isn’t an option.

DropBox

Think of Dropbox as your virtual filing cabinet.  It’s a secure platform that allows your workplace to find, transfer, and share files. You can set permissions so that only people who need access to a folder have it, add comments to files, and track changes on specific documents by viewing the folder history.

Airtable

Airtable is a project management tool that acts as an online wall calendar.  It allows users to assign tasks to team members, view projects in calendar view, as well as storing images and any other necessary files.

Officevibe

Officevibe is a great collaboration tool to engage colleagues who are working remotely.  With its tools for surveys and metrics, you can get a view of what your employees real views are.  Workers can give their feedback anonymously, and the software can be customized to meet your specific business needs.

Scannable

Scannable allows you to use your smartphone or tablet as a scanner to capture documents, receipts, and business cards.  You can scan several pages at once before deciding to store or send off your document. Share your scan using email, Google Drive, instant messaging, or even social media. Scannable is also fully integrated with Evernote, so all your scans are backed up to your Evernote account
